ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY
From physical object to working part without original drawings
3D reverse engineering is the process of capturing the exact geometry of an existing physical object using a high-resolution 3D scanner, converting that scan data into a precise CAD model, and using that model to manufacture replacement or improved parts. It is the most reliable approach for legacy part replication, discontinued part replacement, and reverse engineering mechanical parts across the Middle East without needing original drawings or OEM support.
- Legacy equipment maintenance when original manufacturers no longer supply a part, we recreate it exactly.
- Worn component replacement scan the original before it fails, then print on-demand spare parts across the UAE whenever you need them.
- Reverse-engineered improvement capture the base geometry, then redesign for better performance or material.
- Digital asset creation convert physical objects into permanent CAD files for your engineering library, including as-built survey outputs for asset management and future maintenance.

ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY
From physical object to working part — without original drawings
Engineering teams come to 3DX when they need real components — not desktop prints — produced fast enough to keep iteration loops alive. HP Multi Jet Fusion in PA12 covers most production work; SLA and FDM extend our range for transparent, detailed, or oversized parts; urethane casting handles short-run batches with material properties MJF cannot directly deliver..
- Legacy equipment maintenance— when original manufacturers no longer supply a part, we recreate it exactly.
- Worn component replacement— scan the original before it fails, print replacements on demand.
- Reverse-engineered improvement— capture the base geometry, then redesign for better performance or material.
- Digital asset creation— convert physical objects into permanent CAD files for your engineering library.

OUR PROCESS
Four steps from broken part to working replacement
Every reverse engineering project follows the same structured workflow designed to minimise your downtime and eliminate re-work.
01
Part assessment & scan
We receive your component in person at our 3D scanning service facility in Dubai or via our on-site scanning service across the UAE. Our structured-light and laser scanners capture geometry to ±0.02mm point accuracy on parts from 10mm to 2m.
02
Point cloud to CAD
Our scan to CAD service converts the raw point cloud data into a clean parametric CAD model fully editable in STEP, IGES, or SOLIDWORKS format. We add tolerances, fit specifications, and surface finishes to match your application.
03
Client approval
04
Print, inspect & deliver
We print in your specified material, run a full dimensional QC check against the approved CAD, and deliver the finished parts with a certificate of conformity. We retain the CAD file for repeat orders at any time.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about ourreverse engineering service
The part should be as complete as possible, but we regularly work with worn, corroded, or partially damaged components. We can interpolate geometry from symmetric sections and engineering judgement where damage has affected a surface. We will assess your specific part during the initial consultation and advise you on feasibility before any work begins.
Yes. Our portable scanning equipment handles objects from a few centimetres up to several metres. For fixed machinery, pipework, or structural elements, we bring the scanner to your site across the UAE. Industrial and large-format scans are quoted on a project basis contact us with dimensions and location.
You receive both. The CAD file (STEP and/or IGES format, compatible with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA, and most major platforms) is delivered alongside your finished parts. You have full ownership of the file and can use it with any manufacturer including ordering repeat prints from us at a reduced cost since the modelling work is already done.
Our 3D scanning captures geometry to ±0.02mm point accuracy. Printed dimensional accuracy depends on the technology and material used typically ±0.1–0.2mm for SLS (our most common process for functional parts), and tighter for resin processes. We provide a full dimensional inspection report with every job so you have documented evidence of conformance before installation.
We offer scan-to-CAD as a standalone service. Many engineering consultancies and manufacturers commission us solely for the digital output to archive a legacy part, to feed into FEA analysis, or to take to a traditional manufacturer. The process is identical; we simply deliver the CAD file rather than the printed part.
Fill in the enquiry form below with a brief description of the part, its application, and your timeline. If you can share a photo, even better. We will respond within one business day with a feasibility assessment and indicative quote. There is no commitment at that stage we review your project, explain what’s involved, and let you decide.
